The register, by county
Each post's published jurisdiction, reproduced in full rather than summarised.
A summary is exactly what goes wrong here, so there is not one. What follows is the county list each post publishes, in full, with the four counties where the familiar shorthand gives the wrong answer pulled out separately underneath.

Where the familiar answer is wrong
Guessing from the region name gets four counties wrong, and each of them is a Midlands county that files in London rather than Manchester.
| County | Region suggests | Actually files at |
|---|---|---|
| Herefordshire | West Midlands | London |
| Worcestershire | West Midlands | London |
| Warwickshire | West Midlands | London |
| Northamptonshire | East Midlands | London |
Wales sits with London in its entirety. An earlier version of this page left Wales off the map, and the postcode tool sent the LL area to Manchester on the reasoning that North Wales falls inside the North West. Both are corrected. Where a postcode answer and this register ever disagree again, the register is the one to follow: the posts publish counties, and any mapping from a postcode onto a county is ours.
The three posts
Where each one is, what it covers, and the one thing about each that changes how a file goes.
Consulate General in London
- Covers
- Southern England, Wales, the Channel Islands, Gibraltar, and South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands
- Address
- Harp House, 83-86 Farringdon Street, London EC4A 4BL
The largest of the three by volume, and the one that carries the bulk of UK descent work. Correspondence routes through the official site rather than direct contact.
conslondra.esteri.itConsulate in Manchester
- Covers
- Northern and central England, including the West Midlands metropolitan county, plus the Isle of Man
- Address
- The Chancery, 2nd Floor, 58 Spring Gardens, Manchester M2 1EW
Appointment-only, with high volume relative to its size. Note that its translation policy has never appeared on its website, so anything stated about Manchester translations, anywhere, is inference.
consmanchester.esteri.itConsulate General in Edinburgh
- Covers
- All of Scotland and all of Northern Ireland. Visa work is redirected to London.
- Address
- Italy House, 20-22 East London Street, Edinburgh EH7 4BQ
The post with the narrowest published document rules in the UK network. It certifies translations only of certificates issued in Italy, Scotland or Northern Ireland, which leaves an England-and-Wales certificate held by a Scottish resident without a published route.
consedimburgo.esteri.itThe embassy is not a fourth option
A common and costly assumption, dealt with in a paragraph.
The Embassy of Italy at 14 Three Kings Yard, London W1K 4EH sits alongside the consulates and does not handle citizenship or passport applications for individuals. Diplomatic and political matters go to the embassy. Consular work goes to the post that covers your address, and only that one.
What this page does not tell you
Two claims removed rather than corrected, because we could not source either.
Appointment mechanics, fee schedules, payment methods and translation policy move without notice and differ between the three posts. This page is the jurisdiction reference and stops there. Two things we deliberately do not state:
Sources
Each row is a document that was read, not a search result. Where an archived copy exists, the hash is the copy we read, so a later reader can tell whether the page has moved since.
- Institution, on itself
Published consular jurisdictions, London, Manchester, Edinburgh
Consolati d'Italia nel Regno Unito
The row pointed at the consulate's front page until 2026-08-22, so what got archived was a homepage. This url is the page that actually carries all three jurisdictions with the county lists. Cross-checked against it on the day: all 53 entries in the tool's county register match, in both directions, with no county on the page missing from the register and none in the register absent from the page.
