Where the region name points elsewhere

For four counties the region name can point the other way. Each of them is a Midlands county that files in London rather than Manchester.

Covers: Southern England, Wales, the Channel Islands, Gibraltar, and South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands

London's citizenship office publishes an email address, cittadinanza.londra@esteri.it. If relatives of yours were already recognised through London, it asks you to write to it a month before your appointment with your details and theirs.

Consulate in Manchester

Covers: Northern and central England, including the West Midlands metropolitan county, plus the Isle of Man

Appointments are booked through Prenot@Mi only, and a booking that is not confirmed is deleted by the system. Foreign certificates go in apostilled and “professionally translated into Italian”; the page does not say who counts as professional. As read on 19 October 2026, its citizenship page cites arts. 7, 8 and 12 of Law 555/1912 and circolare 43347 of 3 October 2024 for the rule that an ancestor's foreign citizenship acquired before 1992 interrupts the line. Circolare 65050 of 10 August 2026 treats 43347's reading as superseded for a co-resident parent's naturalisation between 1 July 1912 and 15 August 1992.

Consulate General in Edinburgh

Covers: All of Scotland and all of Northern Ireland. Visa work is redirected to London.

Citizenship applications are made in person, by Prenot@Mi appointment. Its two pages read differently on which translations it certifies. The translations page names only certificates issued in Italy, Scotland or Northern Ireland; its condition (d) page says certificates issued by UK authorities. Anyone filing there with an English or Welsh certificate may wish to ask which applies before paying for a translation.

The embassy is not a fourth option

A short note on who handles what.

The Embassy of Italy at 14 Three Kings Yard, London W1K 4EH sits alongside the consulates and does not handle citizenship or passport applications for individuals. Diplomatic and political matters go to the embassy. Consular work goes to the post that covers your address.

What this page does not tell you

One point on Edinburgh, and one still open.

Fee schedules, payment methods and waiting times can change and differ between the three posts. This page is the jurisdiction reference, with the one thing about each post that changes how a file goes, and stops there.

Edinburgh states that applicants must appear in person, by appointment only, booked through Prenot@Mi.

Cross-checked against it on the day: all 53 entries in the tool's county register match, in both directions, with no county on the page missing from the register and none in the register absent from the page.

Addressed to the prefetture, to pass to mayors and civil registrars. Naturalisations up to 30 June 1912 stay under Cass. 454/2024 for now. Someone refused only on the 17161/2023 reading may ask for a re-examination of the original application rather than file a new one. The number 65050 is the ministry's, from the page listing the circolare; the pdf itself carries it only in its stamp.

The county lists on this page were checked on 7 October 2026 against the Consular Network page of the London post, which publishes all three jurisdictions, and match it exactly. The archived copy listed under Sources is an earlier read of the Italian version of that page, from 22 August 2026. The notes on each post come from that post's own pages, read on the dates shown.
